The revitalization of the New Glasgow Riverfront has added a recreational and leisure dimension for all ages and interests. The riverfront is home to a full service marina, the Samson Trail, a 4km trail along the East River and the Pioneer Trail (2km) which connects the trail system to the east side of the town. Victorian style lampposts line the riverside and light the Town's landmark George Street Bridge and the Samson Trail.
The revitalization of the Riverfront along with the addition of Glasgow Square Theatre has brought new life to the Downtown core and has become a focus for community celebration and festivities. It is also a great source of community pride and was realized through the dedication, imagination and vision of many residents, groups and businesses working together to make the dream a reality.
In 2009, the Town of New Glasgow leased the marina operation to Jamie Davidson. Crabbie J’s Marina is centrally located with a convenient launching point close by, free parking, washroom/showers, gas and diesel for sale. The Marina is under 24 hour surveillance and access to the dock area is restricted.
In addition to the marina operation, Crabbie J’s operates a fresh fish market. Located within the marina, Crabbie J's Fish Market offers a wide variety of fresh, smoked, dried fish and seafood. There is something for everyone from the local season’s catch to not so common species like tuna, squid, octopus or monkfish.
In 2010, Sips Riverfront Café was opened upstairs in the marina by owner, Nicole Morgan. The café offers a wireless internet, flat screen TV, DVD and a beautiful riverfront view. Menus include a varied lunch menu and their biggest feature - Seafood Chowder and “Double Chocolate Cheesecake Balls”. The café offers a beautiful riverside location for your next meeting with comfortable seating for 24 people and offers off site catering to meetings or social gatherings.
Whether as a boater, a naturalist strolling on the trails or enjoying one of our many festivals, New Glasgow's riverfront is the place to enjoy a leisure evening or a fun-festive weekend.
