The Major Crime Unit is responsible for investigating serious crimes such as sexual assault, break & enter, theft over $5000, fraud, armed robbery, homicide and sudden death.
The Major Crime Unit works hand-in-hand with the Patrol Section, and also has a close working relationship with various municipal police agencies and RCMP detachments in the Province.
The members of the New Glasgow Police Service Major Crime Unit often join forces with other law enforcement agencies to combat criminal activities in the community. Such partnerships are often referred to as Joint Force Operations or J.F.O.'s.

Detective Sergeant Steve Chisholm is the officer in charge of the Major Crime Unit of the New Glasgow Police Service.
