Police Chief Delaney Chisholm 

Delaney Chisholm was promoted as New Glasgow ‘s Chief of Police in September 2007. A veteran police  administrator and officer, Chief Chisholm has 38 years of service , all within the ranks of  New Glasgow Police Service .

policechief2011As the Chief of Police, Chief Chisholm reports to the New Glasgow Board of Police Commissioners and is responsible for the Administration and Operation of law enforcement functions and activities of the New Glasgow Police Service. Through a shared leadership process, the Chief of Police leads the strategic direction of the Police Service as developed in partnership with the Board of Police Commissioners. The Chief develops and implements the goals and objectives in administrative and operational police activities relating to enforcement of criminal, provincial, and municipal laws as well as the effective administration of the Police Service as a Department of the Town of New Glasgow. Chief Chisholm also serves by appointment as the Traffic Authority for the Town of New Glasgow .

Chief Chisholm graduated from the Atlantic Police Academy in 1973 and in the same year commenced his policing career with the Regional Municipal Police Force, which then served the Towns of New Glasgow and Trenton. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in 1975 while assigned to the Patrol Section on general policing duties on Platoon. In 1983, he was promoted to the rank of Detective and assigned to the Major Crime Unit where he was responsible for the investigation of major criminal and drug investigations. In 1989, Chief Chisholm was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he assumed command of a Platoon on Patrol. In 1999, Chief Chisholm was appointed as the Officer in charge of the Major Crime Unit where he was responsible for the overall criminal operations of the Police Service.  He was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police Operations in October, 2002 where he assumed the responsibility for the overall operational function of the Police Service.  Part of this responsibility also included the Officer in Charge of the Emergency Response Team.

During his career, Chief Chisholm has attended the Atlantic Police Academy, Canadian Police College and Dalhousie University to continue his professional development as a police executive and has taken courses in a board range of areas in Police Leadership, Executive Development, Major Crime Case Management, Police Labour Relations and training in the areas of Emergency Measures Preparedness Operations.  Chief Chisholm has been the recipient of the Canadian Police Exemplary Medal and the Nova Scotia Police Long Service Medal.

Chief Chisholm as part of the Town of New Glasgow commitment to provincial public safety priorities also sits on some provincial and national committees associated to making Nova Scotia communities safer. These committees include:

  • Chair of the Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia (CISNS) where Chief Chisholm represents Nova Scotia at the national level on Organized Crime issues.
  • Member of the Executive of Nova Scotia Chiefs of Police Association representing the Town Police Chiefs Caucus. 
  • Member of the Atlantic Police Academy Training Advisory Board.
  • NSCPA representative on the Nova Scotia Justice Learning Centre Committee.
  • NSCPA representative on the Nova Scotia Safer Streets Community committee.
  • NSCPA representative on the Provincial Lockup Committee.
  • Member of the Joint Management Team of the Pictou County Integrated Street-Crime Unit.
