New Glasgow is a thriving combination of small, mid size and large businesses. There are several commercial, service and business districts in the town, which include the Downtown core, Westville Road, East River Road and a developing Business Park in the Parkdale area.

New Glasgow is also home to the Maritimes Northeast Pipelines central office, Stright-McKay, the Aberdeen Hospital, three Sobeys grocery stores, a Co-op store, the Atlantic Superstore- New Glasgow Market and most major car dealerships. Employers include Convergys, a high tech customer service centre, large retail outlets such as Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart, Staples and Zellers and has been home to Maritime Steel for 100 years.

Tim Horton's, Wendys, McDonalds, Pizza Delight, Subway, and Greco all have franchises in New Glasgow as well as Empire Theatres Studio 7. Many financial institutions and several law firms are also well represented in the New Glasgow area.
